They were known for their energetic live shows and their concept albums. At the Drive-In reunited again in before splitting in Comments from the pair have indicated that they plan to reunite The Mars Volta in the future. As of , there is no new information regarding a reunion or new material. The Volta is taken from a Federico Fellini book about his films, what he characterizes as a changing of scene, or a turnaround; a new scene to him is called Volta.
As they trudged off stage, it was clear that the creative spark that had ignited 11 years and 6 albums of virtuoso, free-wheeling and occasionally maddening rock had finally been extinguished. This left The Widow and Goliath — cornerstones of their maximalist style — denuded and blocky, stripped of their trademarked verve. The dischord was palpable. The soap opera went on, though. The whole Volta story will make a great book one day.
Their previous band At the Drive-In were a very progressive band in the hardcore punk rock scene. They were pushing the boundaries there, especially during the later albums. They also did a bunch of dub reggae stuff in a band called De Facto, and that dub sound fed into The Mars Volta as well. Someone played me their first album De-Loused in the Comatorium in I was blown away and it captured my imagination immediately. The playing was really frenetic, and songs like Inertiatic ESP were really atmospheric and trippy, with some really far out sounds, and incredibly intense drumming. None of the songs were really for the radio songs, but MTV still played the videos for Inertiatic ESP and Televators — one was animated and one was live. It seemed like they just wanted to make a body of work, and I really respected that. After De-Loused , I carried on listening to them. They put out another five albums, and each one was different.
No one should feel excluded from the House of the Lord. And of course, everyone has a different experience. No doubt that some will be valiant up on the other side of the veil, but just as sure there will others who will reject salvation because of their high mindedness. It's also possible that deep down she's like many of us here, and her shelf will break and she'll want out. I have been dating a doctor for over two years now and we have talked about marriage, as well as some of the challenges his job will entail.
